Fillers Q & A

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable substances that increase facial fullness. They work by replacing lost volume that occurs as you age. Certain dermal fillers also enhance volume in your lips or smooth recessed acne scarring.

There are numerous dermal filler formulations available. Some are thicker than others, and there are formulas created for specific areas of your face. That range of options allows Dr. Watson to create a dermal filler approach that suits your specific set of needs.

What are Juvederm dermal fillers?

Juvederm® is a very popular family of dermal fillers created from hyaluronic acid. That substance is found naturally in your skin and serves to plump and soften skin tissues. The hyaluronic acid used in Juvederm formulations is created in a lab, but once injected into your skin it works in much the same way as the hyaluronic acid your body produces.

Juvederm Voluma® XC works to increase volume in your cheeks and can help lift and tighten your skin. These injections can even lessen the appearance of jowls by lifting sagging skin.

Juvederm® Ultra XC increases lip volume, and Juvederm Volbella® XC smooths vertical lip lines. The effects depend on the volume of filler used and where the injections are placed.

Juvederm® XC is a great option for smoothing lines and fold alongside your mouth and nose. Juvederm Vollure™ XC works in the same areas, but the results can last up to six months longer.

What is Restylane?

Restylane® is another dermal filler created from hyaluronic acid. Like Juvederm, there are various formulations of Restylane to treat different areas of the face. Some of the more popular applications include:

  • Nasolabial folds
  • Lips
  • Marionette lines

Don’t let the volume of choices intimidate you. Dr. Watson has a great deal of expertise in dermal fillers and can guide you toward the options that are best for you.

What is a liquid face-lift?

The term “liquid face-lift” is used to describe a combination of dermal fillers and injectables like Botox® and Dysport®. By combining more than one injectable treatment, an astounding transformation is possible.

It’s critical, however, to work with a skilled and experienced physician when pursuing any injectable treatments. Determining the type of product, the placement of injections, and the volume of product to use takes practice. In the wrong hands, you could end up with uneven volume, a “frozen” appearance, or enhancements that are out of balance with your natural features.
